Cheese tasting night goes down brie-lliantly

I couldn't resist the cheesy pun (sorry, not sorry!) I also couldn't have imagined, when I set up the business, that I would be hosting my very own cheese tasting night at my very own Cheese Place but we did it - and it was a great night.

I have been lucky enough to have been invited to run cheese tasting events at other premises in the area which have been great fun. Those who know me well will know that cheese and chatting are two of my favourite things to do so combine the two and we're on to a winner.

When I opened The Cheese Place in May, there were already plans to host a cheese tasting event and lots of people were asking about it so we set about organising it and held the first one on Thursday 25th July. The response was great and we sold all the tickets within a few weeks - also the date just so happened to be International Cheese & Wine Day - ideal timing!

It was important to get the pairings, and pricing, right and these were carefully considered. We went for a Charcoal Cheddar aperitif, Mayfield with strawberry jam, Cheshire with tomato and basil, Chilli Double Gloucester with mango chutney, Ribblesdale Goats with beetroot crackers and to top it all off delicious lemon and strawberry cheesecakes. It's fair to say none of the guests left hungry! The Mayfield pairing was the most popular and the biggest surprise of the night was the Ribblesdale Goats Cheese with two of the guests saying it had converted them to Goat's Cheese (hurrah!)

The evening was lots of fun - and the feedback we had from guests made it all worthwhile. There were quite a few nerves in the run-up to the event, especially with it being the first one at The Cheese Place but reviews like this have blown me away:

"What a little gem of a place. My wife and I attended a cheese and wine tasting night at this fantastic fromagerie. The night was filled with amazingly presented cheese pairings and the team were full of cheese related information. Thanks for a great night guys, looking forward to attending many more!"

Given the response, and the fact that we had a waiting list of people who wanted to come, we are definitely planning more tasting nights.

It will be great fun discovering different pairings for the next one - and as always we love your suggestions about which cheeses go with which accompaniments!
